Hamilton Jazzmaster Auto Chrono 46mm H328160 | Valjoux 7750

The Hamilton Jazzmaster Auto Chrono H328160 is a proper old-school racing-style sports chronograph, built around the legendary Valjoux 7750 automatic chronograph movement — a calibre used in plenty of much more expensive Swiss watches.

At 46mm it has a substantial, chunky feel on the wrist with loads of presence. It is definitely one for people who like a larger, heavier chronograph rather than a slim-wrist watch.

Condition

Good used condition with light signs of normal wear to the bezel, case and bracelet. Overall it presents well with nothing particularly obtrusive. The sapphire crystal is unmarked.

Mechanical condition

Timegrapher tested across five positions: approximately +5 to +10 sec/day, 253° to 280° amplitude and 0.0 to 0.2 ms beat error at 28,800 vph.

The Valjoux 7750 is running strongly with healthy amplitude, excellent beat alignment and stable positional performance. Power reserve is also very good.

Day/date fault — please read

This watch has a known day/date issue: the day changes at approximately 2pm rather than around midnight. The date changes at approximately 00:30. Timekeeping and power reserve are otherwise very good.

Because of this, the watch is priced accordingly and sold as spares or repairs. It may suit someone who is happy to use it as-is, or someone looking for a project to diagnose and repair. Please review the product video, where the issue is demonstrated clearly, before purchasing.
