Selling my beautiful 1982 Jaeger-LeCoultre ultra-thin automatic, reference 5000.42, powered by the ultra-slim calibre 900.
An insanely thin case of around 6mm, near 50 years old it's a stunning collector's watch unlike any other. One I am genuinely on the fence about selling. I absolutely love how flush it sits on the wrist - it is probably the thinnest automatic watch I have owned and almost disappears under a cuff.
I normally gravitate more towards sports watches. The current-model Longines Conquest feels like a very thin watch to me, but next to this JLC it feels like an Invicta.
Despite the delicate proportions, it still has loads of character. The rounded hexagonal case, crisp white dial, bold Roman numerals and date at 3 give it a really distinctive look that feels unmistakably vintage without looking dated.
I recently wore it to a wedding and received loads of compliments on it. It is a phenomenal piece, working on a video of it for the Zero Hour Watches YouTube channel so keep an eye.
Excellent cosmetic condition for a watch from circa 1982. The case has only light signs of age and wear visible upon close inspection, but overall presents beautifully. The dial is extremely clean and the crystal is clear and unmarked.
The black crocodile strap has been worn but remains in very good usable condition and is fitted with the signed Jaeger-LeCoultre pin buckle.
Very good mechanical condition, timegrapher tested across 5 positions:
Approximately 0 to +6 sec/day depending on position, 228 to 254° amplitude, and 0.1 to 0.3 ms beat error at 28,800 vph.
The Jaeger-LeCoultre calibre 900 automatic movement is running very well overall, showing strong accuracy, low beat error and solid positional consistency - amazing for a vintage ultra-thin watch.
Power reserve tested at approximately 41 hours and 30 minutes, a healthy result for the calibre 900.
